The National Ironworker Welding Certification Program is administered by the National Training Fund and independently verified by the American Welding Society (AWS). Ironworker Local Unions must apply to become accredited testing facilities. After an initial onsite audit, the facilities are subject to a re-audit every three years and random audits by the AWS to ensure conformance and maintain quality standards.
The program provides a Welding Performance Qualification Test Record (WPQR) and photo certification card for identification purposes. Each card specifies the welding process in which an Ironworker has qualified allowing verification of skills by employers. Verification of Ironworker welding certifications and access to print copies of an Ironworker’s WPQR is also made available through an online verification system.
IMPACT funds the $25.00 AWS fee for all Ironworker welding certifications through the National Ironworker Welding Certification Program. Ironworkers must maintain these certifications through the National Ironworker Welding Certification Program. Fees associated with the renewal of a lapsed certification will not be funded by IMPACT.
