A new "green" office building going up in Cypress may become a blueprint for the real estate sector in the Houston area.
The Woodlands-based Howard Hughes will use North American timber and low-carbon materials to construct Houston's first mass timber office building. The project, christened One Bridgeland Green, will be located within the 70-acre Village Green at Bridgeland Central, the master-planned community's urban district. The office building will be completed in the summer of 2025, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.
“We are experiencing tremendous leasing momentum as companies look to locate and expand into communities where a long-term approach to office development incorporates both resilient design and innovative strategies that promote an enhanced quality of life,” said Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region for Howard Hughes.
Designed to meet sustainability certifications such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold, the office building is expected to reduce annual energy usage by 25 percent and lower water consumption by 80 percent, according to the developer. The water conservation efforts will be aided by a nearby 10,000-gallon rainwater cistern that will recycle rainwater and HVAC condensate.
