HONOLULU (KHON2) - The Iron Workers Union Local 625 and the Hawaii Iron Workers Stabilization Fund donated $42,000 worth of household supplies and personal items to the Kauai flood victims.
Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho was on Oahu at the Waipio Costco on Thursday to accept the donation.
The supplies were loaded onto a shipping container provided by Young Brothers and members of the ILWU helped with the loading the container.
"I was initially approached by Uncle George Paris and the Iron Workers who wished to donate supplies to Kaua'i as many of them have family and friends who were affected by the flood," stated Mayor Carvalho. "Soon after, Uncle George called me back to say they'd be filling a container full of supplies with the help of the ILWU and Young Brothers. Our island has been so blessed by the generosity of our friends and neighbors as we continue to rebuild from our devastation."
"People don't realize the recovery part of it is just as important," said Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho. "A lot of families have a lot of difficulty still and these household items are going to make a difference into the living rooms and homes of our families."
The container is expected to arrive on Kauai by this weekend.
