Workers with Century Steel Erectors set the final beam in place for Iron Workers Local Union No. 3's Apprenticeship Training Center.
The center is undergoing a $3.8 million expansion at 2201 Liberty Ave. in Pittsburgh's Strip District neighborhood, according to a press release.
The beam was put in place with a ceremony marked by the workers, including an American flag to honor the country, a broom to represent a "clean” finish and an evergreen tree to represent a job well done, growth and good luck in the future, according to the release.
The expansion will add a new second floor, a two-story addition and renovation to the exterior of the building, the release said. More than 6,000 square feet will be added to the existing 8,000 square foot facility to accommodate about 350 to 400 trainees, more than doubling the current capacity.
