Heading the list of topics for the October 12, 2012, IMPACT Regional Advisory Board meeting in Chicago was a special seminar by Kristina Hillman of Weinberg, Roger & Rosenfeld, a law firm based out of Alameda, Calif., on current U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) laws. Ironworker and Contractor leadership alike gave the presentation rave reviews and came away with a better understanding of harassment and discrimination issues in the construction industry.
Also well-received was Rick Gerasta’s workshop on challenges facing pension plans in a down economy. Gerasta is a Senior Vice President with the Chicago based Segal Company, a consulting firm specializing in benefits and human resources for multiemployer trust funds and public sector organizations.
Rounding out the meeting were heavy industry and commercial construction outlooks for the next few years, presented by Don Cotchen, Account Manager with McGraw Hill Construction, and Tony Salemme, Vice President of Sales for Industrial Information Resources.
“The workshops were relevant; the speakers lively, and the venue first rate,” said Patrick O’Conner, Labor Relations Manager with Stone & Webster Construction, Inc. “I took pages of notes and learned a lot.”
