In an effort to supply Contractors and Owners only the most skilled Ironworkers, the Iron Workers and the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT) announced this week the official release of “Metal Building Systems,” an all-new training package focused on metal building construction methods and best practices.
“Metal buildings have been and will continue to be a growing segment of the ironworking industry,” said Walter Wise, Iron Workers General President. “Their expanded and evolving use mandate that our members have the skills necessary to secure opportunities that will grow market share for our Union and contractors.”
The new package encourages Ironworkers to learn actively through a series of hands-on exercises and videos illustrating specific metal buildings systems construction practices.
The training package includes the following units:
1. Introduction to Metal Building Systems
2. Preparing to Erect a Metal Building System
3. Unloading, Laying Out, and Storing Materials
4. Reading Metal Building System Drawings
5. Erecting Structural Steel
6. Installing Insulation, Wall Panels, Trim, and Flashing
7. Installing Roof Insulation, Panels, and Ridge Caps
8. Installing Gutters, Downspouts, Rake Trim, and Peak Boxes
9. Installing Doors and Windows
10. Re-roofing and Other Metal Building Renovations
Metal buildings are popular in construction because they are relatively simple to construct, are easy to modify and offer superb resistance against corrosion, fading and discoloration.
