SALT LAKE CITY - Representatives from the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT) traveled to Salt Lake City late last week, showcasing the Iron Workers’ unmatched brand of safety, education and training during the organization’s most recent Regional Advisory Board (RAB) meeting.

“Traditionally we have region-wide RAB meetings, but this year, we’re focusing on bringing our message to a hyper-local level,” explained IMPACT CEO Kevin Hilton. “We’re answering the question, ‘What does IMPACT do for Ironworkers and Contractors right here, right now?’  We’re talking about how to increase safety, address drug testing issues and double market share right in members’ backyards. It’s a powerful message.”

IMPACT recognizes thirteen distinct administrative regions—each with its own Regional Advisory Board—spanning the United States and Canada.  Traditionally, IMPACT holds one meeting per region each year, but has this year increased the frequency of its meetings in an effort to reach out to more members of the ironworking community on their home turf.

More than two dozen Ironworkers and Contractors attended the Salt Lake City meeting, including journeymen and apprentices from Iron Workers Local Unions 24, Denver, and 27, Salt Lake City. RAB VIII Management Co-Chair Jeff Green and Ironworkers District Council President Matt Groskie also attended.

“Anyone is invited to these meetings,” said Local Union No. 27 Business Manager Mike McDonald, referring to the Apprentices from his Local who attended.  “We want to make sure both Apprentices and Contractors don’t miss out on anything.”

“Our goal is to reach across the aisle and work with our Contractors,” explained Hilton. “And one of the ways to foster these relationships is to hold more and more meetings where Contractors are.” He added, “The success of this meeting is certainly an indication of the need for more RABs with a local bent to them.”

“Having more local meetings is key to allow specific and frank discussions on important topics like training and drug testing.” added Jeff Green, IMPACT RAB VIII Management Co-Chair and CEO of Topping Out, Inc./Davis Erection Company.
