Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust

Expanding Job Opportunities for Ironworkers and their Contractors

The off the Job accident program has been a God's send for our injured members and helps them from digging a financial hole. There is a process  of educating the members, following up with the paperwork to the Trust Fund, insuring the member is paid. This extra time is on behalf of the Business Manager but it is worth it.

Sincerely,
Michael L. Baker

IMPACT Starts LEED Reimbursement Program Aimed to Make Ironworkers, Contractors More Competitive

06/27/2011

Contractors, are you bidding for green building projects?  Ironworkers, have you thought of becoming a LEED Accredited Professional (AP)?  Well, IMPACT is making it a whole lot easier for both groups to say, “Yes.”

IMPACT’s Board of Trustees recently announced a new reimbursement program available to contractor and Ironworker members seeking LEED certification.  IMPACT will reimburse in full any LEED exam fees a contractor has paid on behalf of an employee who has received credentials.  IMPACT will also reimburse Ironworkers who pass the exam.

Under the reimbursement program, LEED certification for both contractors and Ironworkers is essentially free.  The extra training gives signatory contractors an edge when bidding on green projects.  Credentialed Ironworkers can boast specialized skills that make them more appealing to our contractor partners and our customers.

“IMPACT is breaking through [a huge barrier to green construction] with this LEED reimbursement program,” said Jason Walters, a project engineer with Pacific Erectors, Inc.  Jason is the first contractor staff member to receive LEED certification through the program, and IMPACT has already reimbursed Pacific Erectors, Inc., for Jason’s exam fee.

Jason added that the value of the reimbursement program comes from the growing need for “maintaining a green environment and sustainability” in the construction industry. “Most of the jobs that we are building as a company are being LEED certified,” Jason explained.

In order to qualify for LEED reimbursement, the local union and/or contractor must be fully contributing to IMPACT at the one percent level.
