Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust

Expanding Job Opportunities for Ironworkers and their Contractors

The off the Job accident program has been a God's send for our injured members and helps them from digging a financial hole. There is a process  of educating the members, following up with the paperwork to the Trust Fund, insuring the member is paid. This extra time is on behalf of the Business Manager but it is worth it.

Sincerely,
Michael L. Baker
President
Iron Workers District Council of North Central States

Ironworkers Focus on Crane Safety

06/10/2011

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released the 1926.1400 Subpart CC Crane and Derricks in Construction Standard in 2010. Recognizing the importance of this standard for Ironworkers, the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, through IMPACT and the National Training Fund, established a Task Force to focus on implications of the crane standard for the Ironworkers and their employers.

The Task Force recommended revising their crane training package (reference manual, student workbook, instructor guide and DVD) to make sure that the content taught in their apprenticeship training and journeyman upgrading courses is consistent with the new standard. The revised training package will be available in September of 2011.

The Task Force also recommended the development of an OSHA Subpart CC document for use as a reference and training resource by their local training centers and employers. This document and a supporting PowerPoint presentation are used to supplement existing Ironworker crane and rigging courses. These materials can also be used as part of journeyman upgrading courses.

Ironworker employers can use this OSHA Subpart CC document to update the knowledge of their foremen, general foremen and superintendents. Employers may also use this document as a reference on job sites.

In the “Publications and Resources” area you may download a copy of the Crane Standard booklet as a PDF file. On the left side of the file there are three small icons. The middle icon is for “bookmarks.” If you open the bookmarks you can then jump to a specific section of the standard.

Once in the website, you can also download a copy of a PowerPoint presentation based on the standard. The first few slides present some of the new information in this standard and then the remaining slides identify the various sections of the standard.

The Ironworkers are confident that their local training centers and employers will find the revised training materials and the new crane standard document valuable tools for strengthening the knowledge and skills of their apprentices and journeymen.
