It is no secret that the construction marketplace is becoming greener and that green buildings are becoming more common place. The US Green Building Council is the industry recognized leader in green construction. It oversees, through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project certification. The GBCI also oversees an individual credentialing program.
While there is not a LEED certification program in place for contractors, it is possible that having LEED credentialed employees on staff could benefit a contractor trying to secure work on a green project.
The LEED credential program has two levels of accreditation exams:
- LEED Green Associate (LEED GA)
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
Recognizing that this is one area that may help our members secure more work, IMPACT will now reimburse the fees associated with taking and passing a LEED credential exam. If a contractor has paid these fees for one or more of their employees who received the credential, or if any Ironworker has paid for his/her own exam fees and received the credential, IMPACT will reimburse those exam fees.
