Expanding Job Opportunities for Ironworkers and their Contractors

The off the Job accident program has been a God's send for our injured members and helps them from digging a financial hole. There is a process  of educating the members, following up with the paperwork to the Trust Fund, insuring the member is paid. This extra time is on behalf of the Business Manager but it is worth it.

Sincerely,
Michael L. Baker

Iron Workers International Announces 2009 Winners of the Eagle Achievement Award

02/25/2009

The Iron Workers International Union recently announced the recipients of this year's Eagle Awards of Achievement at the 2009 North American Iron Worker / IMPACT Labor-Management Conference in Las Vegas. The award showcases the performance excellence of Local Iron Worker Unions, which are based on the Iron Worker Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

"These awards highlight the dedication and effort our Local Union leaders employ on a daily basis to continually provide our contractors and owners with a safe, well-trained workforce in an effort to expand market share for our proud Union," said Walter Wise, General Secretary of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers.

The Iron Worker KPI program serves as a benchmark for measuring and evaluating the performance of Local Unions throughout the United States and Canada. The program also ensures contractors have at their disposal workers who continually achieve the highest level of professionalism and commitment while on the job.

The KPI's, fifteen in all, represent key goals in five major areas specific to the Ironworking trade - Apprenticeship and Training, Market Recovery, Political Action, Workforce Productivity and Local Union Operations. Since the inception of the KPI program in June 2007, Union Iron Workers have enjoyed the largest percentage growth of any Building Trades Union based on employment. In 2008, Union Iron Workers saw employment opportunities grow 12.02% while the construction industry saw a loss of 6.85%. This growth represents a 15% increase for the Union Ironworkers from 2005, when the most recent numbers were available.

Eagle Award of Achievement winners were judged on their ability to achieve sustained improvement on the fifteen KPI's over the past year. The 2009 Eagle Award of Achievement recipients are:

  • Iron Workers Local Union 3, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Iron Workers Local Union 14, Spokane, WA
  • Iron Workers Local Union 22, Indianapolis, IN
  • Iron Workers Local Union 40, New York, NY
  • Iron Workers Local Union 201, Washington, DC
  • Iron Workers Local Union 361, New York, NY
  • Iron Workers Local Union 397, Tampa, FL
  • Iron Workers Local Union 405, Philadelphia, PA
  • Iron Workers Local Union 433, Los Angeles, CA

Iron Workers Local Union 40, New York City and Iron Workers Local Union 361, New York City were recognized as a member of the 15x5 Club. The 15x5 Club signifies that these locals achieved 100 percent in each five categories of the Iron Worker KPI program. The Iron Workers International Union will continue to annually recognize Local Unions who achieve performance excellence at upcoming Labor Management Conferences.
